Japanese garden
The most popular and famous type of Japanese garden is
the Zen garden. Most Japanese gardens contain several of the following
elements: water, an island, a bridge to the island, a lantern (usually
of stone), and a teahouse or pavilion. The Japanese garden can contain
these items in reality, or symbolically.
There are, of course, Japanese gardens without any water. But although
these particular Japanese gardens do not have water, they evoke a feeling
of water by using pebbles and neatly raked sand. This sort of garden
is what many think of when they picture a typical Japanese garden. In
fact, it is possible to find miniature sets with sand, pebbles, and
a rake small enough to put on your desk at work.
